Dancers from across the state protest new strip-club restrictions from the gallery in the Ohio House of Representatives
Just Say “No” to Ridiculous Regulations
Our state government didn't used to regulate everything that walks, talks, flies or dances. And it didn't used to tell adults how they could spend their free time.
But on May 22, the state legislature gave its final approval to an extreme, new law that will hurt Ohio's economy by crippling the state's $250-million-per-year adult entertainment industry. Why? A small but powerful Cincinnati group doesn't like adult businesses.
These businesses are already subject to a mountain of regulations.
Zoning laws dictate where they can locate. If they have a liquor license, they fall under a complex set of state liquor laws, and all criminal laws apply to them – just as they do to any other business. But under this new law, many adult businesses would be forced to close at midnight, and if a customer touches a dancer – even if it’s just a handshake -- the customer and the dancer could go to jailfor30 days.
Ohio's police are already stretched too thin. Why would we take them off the streets and send them in search of illegal handshakes?
It's time to restore common sense to Ohio, and it's time to tell our leaders to stop treating adults like children
